Cambodia and Azerbaijan Commit to Enhancing Bilateral Cooperation

Phnom Penh, March 22, 2024 – In a significant diplomatic encounter, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, SOK Chenda Sophea, welcomed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shovgi Mehdizada, on March 21. This meeting underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

A statement from the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation highlighted the celebration of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Azerbaijan, established in 1994. Both parties expressed contentment over their warm diplomatic ties and pledged to deepen bilateral cooperation, alongside supporting each other on international platforms for mutual benefit.

The discussions particularly focused on bolstering economic ties, with an emphasis on trade and investment. The Deputy Prime Minister and the Azerbaijani Ambassador acknowledged the importance of increasing high-level exchanges, including ministerial visits, to further explore and prioritize areas of potential collaboration.

Reflecting on the success of the 3rd round of Bilateral Consultations between the two countries' foreign ministries, held in Azerbaijan in June 2022, they also laid the groundwork for the upcoming 4th session, to be hosted by Cambodia at a date convenient for both parties.
